PROUD at OCAD University

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer, Transgendered/Transsexual, Intersexed,
2-Spirited, and Questioning.
We are here. We are students. We are faculty.
We are staff. We are alumni.
We are PROUD at OCAD University.
Campus Life, the Diversity & Equity Office and OCADU Student Union are pleased to coordinate a group designed with its members in mind. Decisions around group activities will be member-driven, so feel free to attend a Queer Café and join the discussion or check here for updates! Straight allies welcome.

Liam, Alexis and Sierra were on hand yesterday working on some more signs and started making colourful pinwheels! OCADU is closed (due to G20) next Thursday and Friday, so another afternoon to finish up signs will be Wednesday, June 23 at 12 noon: Lobby, Student Centre, 51 McCaul Street.

Thanks to Monserrat, Liam and Danica who came by today and got started on a beautiful banner for PRIDE! We will continue sign making at our next meeting: Thursday, June 17 at 12 noon (Lobby, Student Centre, 51 McCaul Street).
June 8, 2010
Ontario College of Art & Design is now officially known as 'OCAD University' (OCADU). 'PROUD at OCAD' has been renamed accordingly to 'PROUD at OCAD University'. Read more...

Mark your calendars! PROUD at OCAD invites you to join your peers (students, faculty, staff, alumni) in this year's PRIDE Parade on Sunday, July 4, 2010! Meet time and location TBA.
We had our second PRIDE Planning meeting June 3, towards preparation for a PROUD at OCAD presence in this year's parade (see Minutes below).
Would you like to help us make placards, signs, banners and pinwheels? Join us on Thursday, June 10 at 12 noon (Lobby, Student Centre, 51 McCaul Street). OCADSU will be providing paint, canvas, bristol board and so forth, but volunteers are asked to bring other supplies such as pencils, markers, rulers, cutting mats, x-acto knives, etc.
Note: all participants should know that the Pride Parade will be broadcast live on television in its entirety and that their image may be photographed or recorded by electronic means. By participating, participants agree to their image being used for any purpose without further consent.

April 28, 2010
The most recent Café, held on April 22, started out slower than others, but the room quickly got busy with a number of students popping in between exams. While the Café schedule will resume in September, members are welcome to come forward with ideas or plan activities for the summer months.
Volunteers are still needed to help plan PROUD at OCAD's presence in the Toronto PRIDE parade (July 4, 2010), coordinated by OCADSU. Interested in being contacted about this? Send an e-mail to Brent Everett James, Student Life Coordinator.
April 8, 2010
A "PROUD at OCAD Pub Night" is being planned.
PROUD members, friends and significant others are invited to come together--off-campus--for a night of music, conversation, great pub food and festive drinks as we celebrate the successes (and end) of the 2009/2010 academic year! This is a PROUD student-member initiative.
O'Grady's Bar & Restaurant
2nd Floor
518 Church Street, Toronto
RSVP please on facebook
Or send an e-mail to Brent Everett James, Student Life Coordinator
If you have a disability which requires accommodation to fully participate in this event, e-mail OCAD Campus Life directly and we will communicate with the coordinating student-member on your behalf
March 29, 2010
Great turnout March 26... again! Thanks for the homemade cookies and rainbow cake; enjoyed by all. Feedback has determined that we will plan another Queer Cafe for April before classes end but before exams start. We only scheduled an hour for March 3 and 26, but have run nearly two hours each time... so I guess that's a sign.
Who wants to help plan OCAD's involvement in PRIDE for 2010!? Let me know!
Also, if you're interested in sitting on the Fall Orientation Committee to help plan a PROUD presence to welcome new students in September, please let me know!

We would like to thank the Student Enhancement Fund for their support. A $500 grant was awarded to PROUD at OCAD to be used for posters, flyers and buttons!
March 4, 2010
The first Café on March 3 had a great turnout. At the height of the hour, about 25 students, staff and faculty had dropped in to chat, mingle, and enjoy pizza and pop.
A "proposed activity" clipboard made the rounds and suggestions for future activities include film screenings (queer-themed movies), writing group for queer academic/creative writers, and queer photography club. Your thoughts are welcome!
We are also very interested in hearing from any PROUD members who want to assist with preparations for PRIDE and/or sit on the Orientation Planning Committee to prepare for a PROUD presence at Orientation & Welcome in September!
