CRITICISM & CURATORIAL PRACTICE
“I have wanted for so long to own and maintain even a few huge, interlocking thoughts that, having exhausted more legitimate methods, I have recently resorted to theoretical speculation.”
—Nicholson Baker, The Size of Thoughts, 1983
This cross-disciplinary program is the only undergraduate program in Canada designed to educate artists, critics and curators. A rich combination of Liberal Studies, Studio/Seminar and Studio courses allows you to define a critical approach to research and studio practice.
You begin by studying Canadian and International art history, art writing, contemporary theory and studio practice. Later, you examine museum and gallery systems, exhibition publications and community arts practices. A hands-on field placement with local galleries, alternative spaces or publications expands on classroom studies. To complete the program, you undertake a major curatorial project with an accompanying body of research.
As a graduate, you are uniquely positioned to take an active role as a professional artist, writer, critic, curator, arts administrator or educator.
